Michael Smith and Associates has worked on a substantial number of school and institutional projects. We enjoy working with primary and secondary school design projects as there is usually the opportunity to take a proactive role in communication and design responses from both staff and students. Some projects have involved students at various class levels being represented on the committee interest group to contribute ideas during the concept, masterplan to the detailed design stage.

Most of our primary school and secondary college projects have been in association with architects. A normal process is :

  • Briefing meeting with the Principal, senior staff and student representatives;

  • Site analysis, understanding of internal and external space functions and interactions. understanding key requirements of the school;

  • Preparation of a return/design brief to conform to requirements and design objectives;
