Burden and Parkfield Recreation Reserves
Client | City of Greater Dandenong
Year | 2017
The City of Greater Dandenong engaged our practice and subconsultant team to review the function and amenity of both of these major parks. The municipality has challenges of socio-economic issues, combined with a diverse multi-cultural community.
Burden Park’s regional playspace attracts many family groups and the park is the home of the Springvale South Bowls Club and the Springvale South Tennis Club. There is a large stormwater retarding basin to the northeast corner of the park which required further improvement. We prepared design strategies to improve the presentation of the bowling club and associated car parking.
Parkfield Reserve is surrounded by residential properties and is home to the Parkfield Cricket Club, Noble Park United Soccer Club and Noble Park Tennis Club. To the outside of the cricket ground there is a veledrome that was longer used and its removal would allow construction of a larger cricket ground to compliance standards and accommodate two full-sized soccer pitches.
We met with Council’s Project Team and user groups of both parks to gain an understanding of their needs and ideas for improvements to both reserves. We undertook community consultation with local residents to include their views and ideas where possible.
